AUGIE is intended to provide a means for communicating essential and functional messages between the user and others within their environments.
The main elements of the app include:
Separate schedule functions for both Home and School/Community settings
Six(6) Main Communication Categories

Plus... a CLASSWORK category (in the school section only)

The NOTE PAD function allows those using F.C.(facilitated communication) and individuals able to type independently direct access to a keyboard for unlimited vocabulary and daily home-school communication.

AUGIE has pre-loaded "core content", but is designed for full and easy customization of Category labels, vocabulary and schedule events.

Combined with the light weight, touch screen accessibility of the iPad, AUGIE is the best technology has to offer and finally puts voice output communication in the hands of everyone that needs it!!!

I began working on AUGIE about nine months ago, and in that short time the idea has come to life through the effort of a small group of talented people with experience building software applications for the Apple App Store and the lessons learned working for a variety of people with ASD.

As a member of Illinois' first joint autism training project 22 years ago and through my role in supporting students with autism spectrum disorders in schools I have gained a unique and valuable perspective on the needs of students, families and schools touched by characteristics of ASD.

As founder of Intervention Development LLC, a consulting firm established in 1991 I worked to provide behavioral intervention and systematic program development based on Functional Assessment of challenging performance characteristics in individuals with Autims and related diagnosis. In that effort, much of my work focused on support to families and school personnel in their efforts to increase pro-social behavior, minimize frustration and reduce the apparent distress experienced by the children in their lives. I have seen over and over the effect that efficient functional communication has in changing peoples lives. Because these people allowed me into their experiences, I have the opportunity today to offer AUGIE as a means to expand communication and develop real connections with others.
